He said it was a BIG redtail

Nice fish, do you have a bigger tank/pond lined up for the RTC's though? He's already too big for a 265gal tank, and could grow up to 4-5ft long given a proper amount of space.

Quite honestly I shouldnt have taken him. This guy is well over 30" and he is by far the fattest rtc I have ever seen. He is WAY to big for the tank and will need a new home sooner than I want to admit. I cant even imagine what this thing will/can eat. My current plans are to fire up my old 300 gallon rubbermaid and that should hold him over for a few months until I can build a pond of about 600-800 gallons. I have a nice 8'x8 spot in the corner of my fish room that should work out nicely. I'm actually a little worried something might be wrong with this guy, maybe something internal. He is almost too fat to be healthy. When I picked him up by hand to put him in the tank he felt a little blubbery. Not very solid around that fat old gut. I guess all I can do is a keep an eye on him ????

The story goes he is only 2 years old and was raised this big in only a 150. Thats an 18' wide tank right ???? And he was raised on feeder goldfish too :screwy: How many feeders a week to satisfy this belly??? I actually cant believe aside from his gut how healthy he looks. His whiskers are perfect and his fins all look real nice, especially after being thrown around in a few tanks. Word has it he hit the floor a few times in the last 24 hrs :( He seems to have settled in pretty good and the other RTC and TSN dont seem to upset by him. I guess I could wake up in the morning with a near 20" TSN hanging out of his mouth. Sure hope not.

Well wish me luck. I think I'm in over my head on this one.

What a beer belly!! Nice get, hope your future plans work out for him.

Sweet score!! If you have a tractor supply around you they have 600 gallon plastic containers for around $300 they make great ponds in ground or in a basement.

Nice fish...1.6 ' to go before you have an adult RTC.
Though shouldn't you be putting your existing fish first if the new fish might be a threat to them?.
