He thinks he wants a lung...questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really like the Marbled Lungfish....what's the temperament like on one of those? and The usual price-range?

good choice....my fav to...I like the spoon head and the long pectoral fins,
they use these to search for food.
teperament: laidback (thats the temperament on mine) just be carefull and they won't bother you.
price: depends on the size I think. but you can sure get one under a hundered...(wild color that is)

if you get a small one you can pick them up for around $60-$70. as mentioned earlier, the African lungfishes are all unpredictably aggressive, and on average, the P. aethiopicus is actually the most aggressive of the bunch. they are all seemingly laid back most of the time, but have random spurts of aggression and they're also very fast.
like the annectens, they like to destroy tank decor, and they will generally no tolerate tankmates.
great fish though, and their pattern is really cool. if you don't mind that they are a bit more 'psychotic' than the annectens, go for it--

I'll get that one later on then....lol!!

For my fiance, we'll be getting the SAL, I'll get the marbled later on...

If there's nothing I really need to stick my hands in the tank for, I should be fine, right? Our would I have to remove the fish for maintenance like I do for some?

(bogwood, I don't know if you're missing the word "OR" in BOTH of my threads, I'm not silly enough to house anything but pygos together.)

I'm not going to be having any tankmates for either lung. it's less expensive this way!! lol (found it out the hard way with neon tetras and an RBP, which are supposedly OK tankmates)

you wouldn't have to stick your hands in the tank very often, but depending on your filtration, you may have to change out the occasional clogged filter sponge, unclog a filter intake, or move around tank decor...other than that, yeah, best to keep hands out of the tank at all times.

we have people over to our place all the time, and parties every so often...all my tanks (especially the lungfish tanks) are securely taped down so they're tough for "outsiders" to open, or for the lungfish to escape --

if it escaped, how far would it go? And what sort of damage can it do???

I don't think my dad would appreciate a FISH escaping his tank!! although, that would be funny to hear someone say...."My fish got out of his tank last night, and poo-ed on the new rug!!"

Anyways, I have 2 cats, 2 dogs free range (the cats aren't allowed in my bedroom since they set 24 crickets free) and 2 iguanas in a cage....I don't have to worry about them getting hurt, do I?

I'm not worried about them hurting it, they know better than to mess with anything out of it's cage...they're used to the igs playing houdini!! For example, hamster escaped a week or so ago, and BOTH cats sat there watching it, didn't touch it or anything.
