he was hiding !!!!

Thank you. So the breaking point came at 1.5'?

No I've not tried massivore with this guy. I guess I should. The thing is mine hides in his log ~every time I come over or pass by and doesn't come out as long as I observe or work around. I don't get it. It probably gets the fish I leave in his tank much later in the night.

Jib's guy does look very thick, I usually see them slender in the photos but most of them are side shots.
These guys love to hide, mine I used to feed only at night after lights out.

I did water changes and feedings, and never saw him grow from 1.5" to 4"+. It was like a surprise.

Even in the pond, when it used to come up to the surface for Pellets, it used to swim under the gator gar, always under its shadow till the last moment, when it used to get out grab some Pellets and hurry back.

He ate a lot of Viejas, plecos, catfish.

And I got him onto dry shrimp when it was 5" or so

Believe he saying he got his at 1.5" and didn't have many options for food.

And as for it, maybe it's not settled in, I can say mine was definitly nocturnal and preferred dim lighting, ended up using a 2' light for a 4' tank. Some fish can take forever to settle in, my hoplias curupira took 5-6+ months to swim or eat while I was in the room, now after having it for 1.5-2 years it flares at me lol. Some fish take longer than others of course. Maybe try feeding before you leave the facility during night time. Do you plan to put him in the 4500? If so now might be a good time so someone can try and put it in its place... Unless he may become a snack. And mine was smaller than jibs and definitly slender in comparison.

Thanks guys so much for the helpful info on your ARTCs.

At present I don't plan to house mine with anyone in its 240 gal section. 4500 gal is out of the question at the moment too. Too risky for both the ARTC and the 4500 gal inhabitants.

Will play by what develops.

Makes me feel better about mine knowing that yours were hiders too. My lighting is very dim.

Those are some clean tanks,
Very well maintained.

That H. Wyckioides might need a driftwood, instead of the rocks, they are vuiery powerful, and can fling rocks.

Those planiceps are so darn beautiful, I always want to get planiceps, they are beautiful when they are small as well as when they are big.

Thanks! All the ARTC's got are two plastic logs, no rocks for him :)

Yup, gotta love firewoods. Unfortunately, they so far have proved to be one of a handful of fish species I cannot keep alive. Tried twice with two batches, one had two 4"-ers, the other had four 1.5"-ers. Lived 1-3 months. All ate well but died the same - started losing balance, spinning.
