The Hidden Reef is having their annual holiday blowout sale, got the flyer in the mail today, this Saturday only.

I got the flyer also. I went up their looking for Discus a month ago. All their Discus look like they are near death. They have around a dozen Discus tanks and every Discus was either brown and missing fins, or both. Most had bulging eyes, were lying on their side and breathing heavy. The worst part is that they are trying to sell these fish and they are not even discounted. That was my last trip up their.

I was up there last week and saw the Discus tanks also. They must have gotten new stock becasue I would say that they look pretty healthy.

They must have. I started up a Discus tank a couple of months ago. I bought a 120 from them and looked at their Discus which looked in great shape at the time. I know they get Stendker Discus which are very healthy fish. All the ones I have now are Stendkers. Then when I went back two weeks ago they looked horrible and I just left the store. They must have just got rid of the ones they had because I know there was no coming back from the shape they were in. The problem is, what kind of shape are the new ones going to be in a month or so. I am sticking with "The Aquarium Center" in NJ.

You could be right in your assesment of the Discus at the Hidden Reef. I am not as educated in them as you are. I have never had a Discus tank before. I like to check them out when I am there and last time I was at the store the Discus looked good to my uneducated eyeball.

I have read some negative stuff about the store but I think it is a fairly decent store. You never know what is going to be there. For example, last time I was there they had a Scarlet Pleco for $90 that was, IMO, an easy 14 inches long. Beautiful fish.

What's in the blowout sale? Any discount on tanks? I Never been to the store.

As far as discus goes, LFS could get discus from a good supplier but their condition will worsen very quickly. Most if not all LFS are not equiped or have the resource to handle discus.

sledge760: Do they have good prices on tanks? I find value pet to have the cheapeast tank in the area. I would love to hear of other LFS with low markup on their tanks

Is Value Pet Center the one on Rt. 130 by the old Airport Circle?

That's the one. They always have the cheapest price with most of their tanks. There used to be a Value Pet (own by his brother) near the Rt70 circle in Marlton but that closed down last year.

I have never been to Value Pet, but that may be the only LFS I have not been too in the Philly and surrounding areas. The HR Discus may not have not looked good but their dry goods, tanks, etc. are the cheapest around. I priced my All Glass 120 all over, and their price was at least $75 lower than any other LFS. Captain Nemo's is right above me but their same 120 was around $100 higher.

They carry mostly Perfecto tank but they do have All Glass and Oceanic as well. I know their 120Gal Pefecto is $299 (cheaper than all the LFS I've seen). Not sure if that's refected as well with the All Glass tanks.
