I agree on the substrate, but for a different reason. It's washing out the colours of all of your fish. That is way too much white in a tank. At the very least, add some driftwood and fake plants to break up the bleakness.
Yes I know it does sadly, but when I do start them on bare bottom then bottom outside glass will be painted black.

All of my tanks are naturally setup. Sand/fine gravel, driftwood and rocks, and lots of live plants. But that's my personal preference.
What color Sand/fine gravel do you suggest?

I have flourite in one tank, pool filter sand in another (see my blog here), and naturally collected sand in others. While the poole filter sand is very white, there will be enough plants in the tank to offset that.
I did order some plants to fill in my tank I'll see how it looks after that.
