Over the rainbow
Hi, I've kept a pair of blood parrots for about 3-4 years now. Unfortunately the male finally died today and the other one doesn't seem to be far behind. I checked the water parameters their almost perfect, and the other fish in the tank are not affected and are eating fine so I'm almost positive there are no problems with the water. Do fish have feelings? That is the only other possible answer

If you got them at the same time and the male died of natural causes then it would be safe to assume the female may not be far behind the male in longevity.
I thought those fish lived longer than that though...

Do fish have feelings...?
I bought a male jewel and then after it matured I bought two females. The male chose one of the females and the other one was "ostracized" and banned to the other side of the aquarium. A good 3-4 months went by and next thing I know the male is "courting" the banned female. Couple days later I have a thousand eggs in one corner of the tank and the first female is now "ostacized" and banned to the other side...it stayed that way and the first female became totally flushed of color, wouldnt move from one spot and would only move to eat. Then a few days ago I was sitting watching the fish and the "bummed" out female suddenly flushed with color, came out of the dark and rocketed up to the top hitting the glass tops and floated back down, D- E- D.
Did this fish finally commit suicide? The "woman scorned"? I dont know. but stuff like that makes me wonder... Your female maybe is sad...a fish sad? Who knows.
Sorry for the loss though.
