Heat-less pumps?

As far as submersible pumps go, I'll throw in another vote for the Laguna MaxFlo pumps. My MaxFlo 2000 seems to put out very little heat, certainly less so than my old velocity T3, which was a real heat generator despite being external and having a fan blowing on it.

The Italian pumps at the con were Sicce Syncra. I've heard very good things about the smaller ones (up to 5.0)

When I was researching pumps for my setup I looked at the Sicce Syncra High Flow Series (their largest models). Back then (~1 year ago) the Sicces HFs were almost twice as expensive as a comparably sized Laguna pump. It looks like prices for the Sicces have come down a bit, but IMO, the Lagunas are still a better value. BTW, for what it's worth Laguna pumps are also made in Italy.

I have also heard and seen Iwaki's that have been running forever; they seem to be a really reliable pump. They run at higher RPMs (high speed) which means they are great at pumping water in higher pressure situations (ex- from basements or through canister filters), but in terms of efficiency, not the best option if you have a traditional sump and are just pumping water up a few feet to your display.
