Do a search here for Marineland heaters, especially the Stealth models. The failure rate is huge!

Great lol! what are the consequences of it? any warning signs?

Some have been lucky and noticed something up shortly after the failure happened. Not sure if there are any advance warnings besides elevated or lowered temps.

Failures include:

Quit working
Stuck in the ON mode (and over heating tank)
Cracking and leaking resin into the tank
Cracking and (possibly) leaking current into the tank
Exploding

It's amazing if you read some of the posts here.

Good luck!

This is a photo of what can happen. It killed my 20" Pangasius Cat. :(

off topic...just noticed your sig :)

I am not into RC anymore, but awhile back, I was into it in a big way! I had an Associated TC3 that I competed with. I had about $3K wrapped up in the car and electronics. The entire chassis was carbon fiber/titanium. A lot of the components were custom made. I won around 14 trophies with it! lol, it was insanely stupid fast :)

I also raced F1, Oval, buggies and Legends Oval. I got tied up with Big Jim (RIP) and ended up making a lot of his products where I work. I actually loved the hobby...I tuned my own motors and did a lot of the custom work myself. lol, I would put 20 hours a week into the car to race 15 minutes on the week-end :)

Right on! A true enthusiast to the hobby :) sad to see that you are out of it now

I just saw a pic of a guys heater that blew up. It looked like someone shot the tank from the inside. He said he was in the room and it sounded like someone shot a shotgun from the inside out and blew glass and water everywhere. Stay away from stealth heaters!!

i have a 250watt for 5 years still works never had anything happen with it.. but have heard about them blowing up!!

Stumbled across this forum somehow, did a little research and found that heaters can blow up. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t258822.html
I have a marine land 50w stealth for my biocube and was wondering if anyone has had problems with it? I heard it was a good heater and thats why I purchased it. Was I misinformed? Here is a link to the heater I have http://www.petworldstore.com/products/?i=MLD90448

I experienced a 200 watt heater blowing up while changing the water....I left the tank while siphoning.........I came back, and started filling the tank again with water.........Once the water reached the coils, it exploded.........Remember to leave the heater under water when doing water changes..........
