I use Rena smart heaters.

I will use nothing but these heaters from now on. I've had outstanding luck with them. When you hook them up to a filter intake, they accuratly maintain your tank temp and no risk of your fish getting burnt from the surface of the heater. The best heater that I've seen in 12 years

Just my $0.02 tho

I wouldn't use any heater without a controller.
No matter what brand, you hear about most of them "breaking" and staying on, poaching your poor fish.
I bought a titanium heater with a controller built in at a local SW store for about $30. It is 200 watt unit, with a temp probe you place away from the heater to get an accurate temp of the tank. The controller does the work of regulating temp, so in theory the heater will last longer as well, and there's no chance of frying your fish because the controller just cuts power to the heater.
The brand I bought is Aqua Heat, but there are a few out there. You might want to look in to a heater guard for your sensitive discus.

try the fluval (tronic) or juwel heaters. they havent gone wrong for me. id go for a 200 watt heater

I would use an Ebo Jager 200w for a discus tank of 55g.
:iagree:Or maybe two 100w. If you are concerned with your Discus getting burned or just for appearances you might want to do a cheap DIY project.
