rena smart heater, its not that i think its leaking i just want to check if it is because i had a diferent heater that leaked and killed the fishes in my 20 gallon, the one i want to use was for the 55 gallon i had. i hacvent used it in a year so im worried if over time it may have degraded
Hello; Sitting unused for a year or so is not a reason for a heater to degrade. I have and do keep heaters unused in boxes for long periods and put them into setups. I cycle them into and out of tanks over time as they are needed. If there is no physical damage the heater should be alright. Several posts have given good pointers on how to check the function of the heater. In addition to those, submerge it for a time then take it out and shake it a little. If water has leaked in you should be able to hear it .
