Heater broke!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well assuming the tank is "cycled" and the heater bust into shards everywhere, the fish should be okay. If the previous informations needs are met in which we was discussing, the fish should be fine; if the needs are not or were not met, the fish is at potential increased risk of perishing due to a variety of other influences in which can cause substantial stress.

Another bit of information is Oscars tend to have very peculiar behavior, and oftentimes swim very strangely compared to other fish; this is just in their nature. If he is pale and he appears to be struggling to swim and survive, then that is a cause for concern. Usually when my heater has broke for a day or two, the fish do not really turn pale, but they do become sluggish but only very slightly. There could potentially be other issues other than the heat, unless it was very sudden or a significant drop in temperature.

It's bare bottom, there's drift wood, and a good size bubble strip,
Is cycled.

Filter? I am not trying to ask questions in which seem to be obvious. I just noticed you did not mention a filter. Anyways he should be okay, just keep an eye on him or her. You could do what some other people was saying regarding a water change with s little warmer water on which could help, but if the fish is already severely stressed a water change could even potentially make the problem even worse if the environment is too drastic. For example, a water change would change the water chemistry to different extents, AND make the fish adjust to "another" temperature change which will rise and the drop again as it cools so this even still stresses the fish. I would not do a water change personally, unless the room in the fish tank is in is excessively hot or cold. I hope this help, and good luck! Just keep an eye on him or her. :)

Admittedly not my finest moment but I forgot my heater unplugged for about a month in an Oscar tank about a year back he didn't even seem to notice so neither did I. Oscars are giant sooks. And like to play dead even when that are fine. I'm sure e will be fine

He is alright, lol he was swimming around all happy until he saw me walk into the room and then went all depress mode again.
I just got a whole new tank,
It's not bare bottom and has a buttload of artificial plants.
And now I have two heaters.
The good news is I didn't have to replace a single drop of water.
Completely syohened old tank water to new tank.
