Heater failure!

Well to shadow this heater catching fire on our main albinos ray display tank. We went to feed in the basement tonight and got a little surprise from our black Diamonds . Our first ray was born!!! we have grown the parents from 4” little pups to them having one of their own it is so so cool!!!

I typically don't use heaters, and depend on household central heating & cooling to maintain my tanks.

Anyway, most of my fish are subtropical species and can tolorate lower temperatures.

I do keep a few old school Ehiem
Jager heaters on hand for emergencies such as the looming winter storm.

Thank goodness, I also use lower watt heaters. I installed the heaters a couple of days ago, in anticipation of the storm. The heaters were set at 75 degrees.

Yesterday, I walked by my 65g and could feel the heat radiating from it. The temperatures was up to 90 degrees.

As we all know temperature settings on submersible heaters are not usually accurate. Eheim
Jager is no different. I quickly adjusted the temperature control knob down to 70 degrees, which actually ended up being 78 degrees.

Oh well, the fish are fine, and if they had any parasites, they probably don't now. Lol
