I'm setting up a 150 gallon for some african cichlids - but i can't get a good answer for what heater or heaters I should use.

anyone have any suggestions?

I got one Aquatop HT 300 watt in my 125 and it heats so good I have to set it at 74º and it keeps the tank at 80º

You need 3-5 watts per gallon.so about 600 total watts.I would get 2 300 W heaters, you could also get a controller to save on electric and will extend the heaters' life.I have eheim ebo jager heaters, they seem made well and no problem in the 2 years I had them

Generally this is the best way to figure out what you need to heat your tank properly. But it really comes down to your room temperature. If your lids are good at holding in heat etc. in my fish room i use a single 250w jager in each 130 and 140g, its overkill for my particular tanks. But depending on conditions you will want to follow the 3-5w rule.

The ebo jager are great but so too are the aqueon pro's. A great heater.

I have Ebos, Hydor, Aqueon, and some others, and consider them all about the same, but
If you aren't going to use a controller, using 2 smaller heaters is a good idea. That way, if 1 gets stuck in the "on" position, the other powers down, and you don't cook your fish.
