Heater for 150 Gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In my old 125 a 250w kept my tank at 83, set at 83. You really dont need much wattage if the tank is covered. Just go with a reliable brand. Personally i love the eheim jagers.

The controllers look expensive. Could i do just one 500 or 600 watt heater with a built in thermostat?

This is what I have on my 180 with 3 250w Aqeoun pro heaters. Works great and affordable: http://www.kensfish.com/aquarium-supplies/aquarium-heaters/finnex-hc-0800-heater-controller.html

Problem with the built in thermostat is that, if it goes haywired and leaves the heater on: your fish are toast. The heater controller greatly increases your chances of preventing this because 2 devices have to fail for your fish to cook.

I got one Aquatop HT 300 watt in my 125 and it heats so good I have to set it at 74º and it keeps the tank at 80º

Not sure that's necessarily a good thing

Just from the maneufacturer point. A jagar 300 watt heater will heat a 265 gal tank from eheim's website and their packaging. So save some $ on other products for ur setup. If it room temp isn't like below 60 f then ur fine.
