Even though my house is set at 79 degrees, my basements around 72 and the room where my 55 is, is around 79. The sun hits the water and boils it up good, for some odd reason. No visitherm there so I'm just playing the guessing game with the heater.
I have ONE visitherm 250w in my 125g, and I have to say its best damn thing I've ever purchased for my tank. Its set to 78 in my basement and my temp reader is reading 78.2 CONSTANT. I think YOURE problem may be your room is warmer than your heater is set at. I know my 55 gallon in my living room is reading around 86 in the day and drops to 79 at night. You bought a heater, not a climate controller. Do colder water changes if its a problem.
Epic Fabrications.... you don't happen to post at FiberglassForums.com do you?
The problem isn't the room... like I said the warm weather has been keeping the tank around 80, but it cooled off recently and hence the need for me to install the heaters.
I realise that I bought a heater... not a heater/chiller climate control... but thanks for pointing that out. My point was that the heater manufacturers ought to remove the temperature setting scale from the front of the heater if they can't hold a reasonable accuracy. I wonder how many beginners just set the temp on the heater and never bother with a thermometer.
I've never had a heater worth a damn as far as temp setting goes. Some I set at 83 to get a water temp of 80. Some I set at 75 to get a water temp of 80.
The only accurate ones I have are my in-line Hydor 300W heaters. I have them set at 80 and the water temp is always a constant 80.
I'd rather run a pair... a 500 watt heater sticking on might suck a bit, but your point is taken. I've got them set up now... still just a bit irritated that they'd bother with the indicator. The thing would be cheaper to make without it, without losing any functionality.
