HEATER MALFUNTION 89 degrees

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
walmart has aquarium thermometer for 1.49, they work great imo.

not digital, but one of those that have red liquid rather then mercury

A digital thermometer would probably be the most accurate. I've bought one to test the accuracy of my "cheap" ones. They are normally a degree or two off, but its close enough that I'm comfortable. If the water feels a little warmer or colder then normal it takes very little time to check the cheap one and double check with the digi.

Had a heater accident myself a while back, it was stuck near 90 for at least 12 hrs. Unfortunately over the course of the next few days 2 GBR's and a young peacock eel didn't recover.

The rasboras, oto, and spotted raphael didn't even notice the difference.

definitley go for the digital thermometer man. Its worth the money and plus you can use it on all your tanks.

My 300 gal is running at 89 every day all summer

I run 2 200w stealths for each 120 and 3 on my bigger tanks. I think my thermometers are all junk. They are the cheap alcohol ones. I brought home my snap on infared therm today and all the tanks were off what the glass thermometers say. The tank that was reading 89 was actually only 85 and my tanks that read low were in the mid 70's... I'm just gonna buy a few digi's. I cant risk expensive fish over cheap equipment.
