Heater or a 240Gal . ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i use a 400watt on my 75 i just bought i think its a little to much when i first filled the tank up it took the heater like half an hour to get it to 78 degrees from 60

Just got for £125.60 a Fx5 off Ebay , bought it straight away seeing as it's the cheapst price i have seen on for . Brand new in box and by the look of the picture it's from a Aquatic shop as it's on a shelf with other filter stuff .

So i going when i get it put it on the 100Gal tank to mature and then i can fit it straight on to the 240gal when i get the tank and not have to wait aslong to put the fish in the tank . Then i can see if one Fx5 will be enough for the tank or not then have a look back on Ebay to get one more Fx5 if need be for around the same price .

:D
Going to have a look on Ebay for a heater or two now and see what sort of price i will he to pay ,i think i m going to just get two 300Watt heater for now , see what there like and then if need be change them about and get ever another one or some lower Wattage ones .

Any idea if the link provided above is accurate? It says I only need 70 watts for my 75 gallon?

If you are not raising your temperature very much then that is probably right.
Especially if it's acrylic.

I'm using 250watts to raise 500 gallons of water 4° F with no problems.

I use two 300 watt heaters on my 240 keeping it at 80 degrees. Summer room temp 75, winter room temp 70.

on my 240 i have one titanium 500 watt heater. In my garage that thing ran day and night in the winter due to 20 degree weather, since i have moved the tank into the downstairs of my house that heater hardly ever has to come on. Room temp makes a huge difference on your utility bill. my tank is also acrylic. I just bought a 600 gallon that is going to have 200 gallon sump and i am going to see if i can get away with the same 500 watt heater.

My tank is in the basement and the temp fluctuates quite a bit.

Thanks , the tank will be glass that i am getting , and will be in a new extension that is getting build right now on a soulth facing wall , so i'm really not sure if the room will get quite hot by it's self or not so thats really why i am asking about heating the tank .

Only about 4weeks to go for the extension is complete with flooring and everthing :D , cannt wait ,

but the down side to it , is the tanks , cabnet and stuff will take 4 - 6weeks them selfs to get build and delivered and i dont really want to order it all until the whole extension is done as if i order the tank now and it comes before the extension is fully complete and there is no where to put it for the mean time . So i have to wait even longer to set the tank up because i am going to order it after the whole extension is done so i dout i am going to get it all done before Christmas :( .

Any more advice on heating , filtration , lighting and other bits , please post here too .

Thank you .
