just bought some heaters from owner yesterday... they are rena cal top lite excel brand.. i noticed that the tempurature is kind of off.. for example i would set it to 90 degree but the thermameter says its only 84.. just wondering why it does this or if anyone has had this problem??

I had a similar problem like this before.... where I set the temp to be around 86 but my temp meter says its around 80 degrees..

I think it has to do with the SIZE of your tank.. I have two 55 gallon.. and they both each have one heater... turned on at 86-90 degrees.. but actual temperature on tank is only 80 degrees...

Also, what watt is your heater? A 250 watt is good for 40 - 50 gallon... so say that you want to heat up a 150 gallon.. you need two of these bad boys to heat up your tank.. or 300 watt heaters..

Hope it helps..

i had similar problem when i first started off in this hobby. i left the heater pluged in during a water change and the sudden temperature change messed my heater up. my light on the heater would turn on and off every few minutes like normal but kept doing it untill my tank reached 90 degrees. i always check my thermometer and noticed it before it was too late. i just returned the heater for another.

also is the heater enough watts for your tank. maybe its just not powerfull enough to heat up that much water.

i put my heater by the intake of FX5 and blows out warm water from the other side. it all depends on where your temp meter is at.

the heaters that i bouught are 300 watt heaters.. my thermameter is on the opposite side of the heater.. so would that affect what my meter is reading?
