I have 2 300w heaters in my 180 with a newlt introduced 20" dovii, I need a way to protect them without removing from the tank since I dont have a sump. I thought abot using 3" pvc with holes drilled in it , to put around them??

Ive never saw a 300w heater, but isnt 3" pretty wide for a heater?

Oh. For bulkyness reasons, why wouldnt you go to 1 1/4" pvc? You can suction cup the pvc to the glass, or if its BB, to the bottom of the tank.

how do you plan on suspending the heater in the pipe? I think that if the heater touches the pvc, it could melt the pipe, or cause hot spots on the heater and eventually crack it.

YOU CAN BUY HEATER GUARDS FROM YOUR LFS, THEY ARE ONLY A FEW QUID, WHY BOTHER? I HAVE TWO ON MY 400W HEATERS AND THEY PROTECT AND LOOK GREAT TOO!

You can place them just above your substrate (I did that for awhile an had no troubles), Titainium heaters are an option I replaced 2 300Watt heaters with 1 500 watt titainium. 3" pvc is a bit large imo, Id go with 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 pvc an cut slots half way threw, that should do what you want an still allow the heaters to work well.
