this is my first tank this large. im going to be housing an aro, catfish and possibly some rays after the cats gone. its going in my basement and im trying to figure out what heater would work best. please share your opinions

the basement is air conditioned and heated, when the ac is running i have the vents taped off. (no use cooling the basment) the tank is a marineland 265, 24 inches wide. 31 inches tall. 85 inches long. i will be running an fx5 filter

Agreed. I use a 300 watt hydor in my 220. My basement houses my furnace as well so it's all I need in Cincinnati. Heck, right now I turn the thing off and the temp sits around 73. Fish just eat less but it also helps with the aggression on the sa/ca community tank.

Get 2 300 watt heaters, That is what I would do just to make sure you have the power to heat it in case you have an ich episode. I would just do 2 300 watt heaters of some type, I have jagers and they so far are good, but I cant say overall on long life as have just had them short time. DR Foster and Smith have them onsale right now for about 22.00 each, thats way cheap. allot of people use them and say good things. Only a few people are talking about the inline heaters, they say they are only good for 80 gallons. If you used one of those or even two you might work them to death super fast and they cost a good amount, The Eheim Jager is for 159-264 gallons each. On my 600 I can run 3 of them but added another just because I found this sweet deal and incase on goes out or what I have extra.
