heater question for my new 265

Get 2 300 watt heaters, That is what I would do just to make sure you have the power to heat it in case you have an ich episode. I would just do 2 300 watt heaters of some type, I have jagers and they so far are good, but I cant say overall on long life as have just had them short time. DR Foster and Smith have them onsale right now for about 22.00 each, thats way cheap. allot of people use them and say good things.

This is true. It always a great idea to have two hooked up just incase one fails during cold months as well. $22! That's a steal. Might buy a couple myself.

A 300 watt inline heater is more than enough to heat the tank. The water coming out of the output of the fx5 will be whatever temperature you set it at therefore heating the tank evenly and efficiently. I would however keep a 300 watt submergible heater in the tank set a few degrees lower than the inline heater in case of failure. I would keep it set lower so it stays off until it's actually needed.

Hydor are good for a lot more than 80 gallons. And for some reason, with these inline heaters, the WPG goes out the window. A 300 watt will heat a 265 gallon tank just fine. Even if you need to warm it up for ich.

Never said it wont heat it up but what life lose might happen from over working it I would be worried about, these things are about 60.00 and personally I would want one to last for 10 years at that rate. I can buy allot of other heaters for that cost. Also the inline are a nice idea but we all don't have setups that are able to set something like that up easy. I am just saying from my experience with large tanks and basements and non basements, and burning out heaters. A single 300 watt would never be a thought in my mind for something larger than 150 gallons.
