I never thought about using a module like this but it makes perfect sense. I use industrial modules similar to this for timing on a dragbike! Great suggestion!

I went the reefkeeper lite route as well. I've purchased an additional module for it, but I have it controlling the heater, lights, monitoring pH and controlling CO2 injection based off pH levels plus an ATO. It really is pretty awesome.
I've been using the Ranco (ETCI-1R ordered from http://www.jehmco.com/html/temperature_controller.html) for 3+ years and have been happy with it (meaning it hasn't failed me yet). Whatever controller you decide to go with, just be sure you aren't exceeding it's max capacity.
You can get the Ranco on EBay for $43 and change delivered if you don't mind wiring it yourself.
Controller is mounted on the outside of my sump room so I can see it every time I come in from the garage.
Power and thermo probe cable is run in through the back and then the switched power is run back to the outlet that I plug the titanium heaters into that are in the sump.
