Heaters for oscar fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Aqueon Pro heaters have a lifetime warranty and are covered in shatterproof thermal plastic

I also agree with Tom, 2 smaller heaters are best, just in case one gets stuck in the on position, in that way, your fish doesn't get cooked.
Sumps are my choice for any large cichlid though, in that way the heater is out of harms way, and out of view, along with all the other equipment.

Unfortunately a sump isn't feasible, I'm going to be running an fx5 and a HOB filter.

I just ordered two of the aqueon pro heaters. That lifetime warranty sold me. I ended up getting the 250W just because...I don't know. They were on sale and the same price as the 200 and I liked how they looked. Thanks again for the help.

I bought 2 Aqueon pro 400W and they both failed within 6 mo. I don't care about the warranty if they won't last. Failure can mean dead fish.

A pair of 200W Aqueon ProHeaters will do the job. I like two heaters because if one goes bad there is still back up. Submerge them at 45 degree angles at each end of the tank. They are about 30 bucks a pice.

X2

That sucks to hear, I've had the exact opposite experience; all of mine have been running for years. Then again, I've never bought one over 300w, maybe they had a bad run of the bigger guys.

Aqueon Pro have only been out for a few years now (2010?) and considering that there has been plenty of bad press about them failing in both the ON and OFF position. (spend some time on google searching aqueon pro heater failure) I guess their Chinese made bi-metal strips are no better then the rest out there.

The reality is most heaters made for the aquarium industry are crap. Buy a controller, or roll the dice.

And I do agree with Tom about using two smaller heaters as well. Ambient room temp is the largest factor in deciding what size heater ones requires, or if one even requires a heater at all.

That's odd i never read a review about them but I have 6 ranging from about three or four years old and never had one fail.........yet. From my experiance they are pretty good and reasonaly priced.

I'll probebly have two go bad today now that I wrote this.

Aqueon doesn't make a 400w version of their Pro series, yours must have been a different model

I had three Aqueon Pro's go out over the course of 2 or 3 years. Probably my fault for not using surge protectors. Anyways, I contacted Aqueon, shipped the heaters back and they sent me brand new heaters the day after receiving mine. I didn't even have a receipt for the heaters. Very happy with the warranty! Customer service was super easy to deal with too.
