heaters

I was reading an article that rated inline heaters for monster tanks as they were far more efficient at keeping consistant water temps.

Really depends where your tank is? In the garage or house?

I use 2 x 300w Rena Smart heaters for my 225g. One is connected to my Rena Xp4 and ever since I connected it to the filter my other Smart heater rarely comes on. I also use 2 of the same heaters on my 450g and it keeps the temps steady but they come on more often. Both tanks are inside my place. If yours is inside imo 3 high wattage heaters on a 240g would be over kill.

I have successfuly heated a 55g with 50w. The heater was on all the time and it had a power head blowing on it the whole time. The point is, if you have adaquate circulation then a smaller(cheaper) heater will do fine. Inline heaters work because the water is constantly moving past it, but they tend to stay on. If you can position the heater to get good circulation I think 2 250w would work providing the tanks arent outside, in the garage or in a room that is constantly fluctuating in temp,i.e front lobby by a door that is always open.

right now i'm running (2) 300 watt heaters on my 300 gallon tank with a temp of about 80-82-and I can go higher if I want...the tank is in an unfinished basement where the temp is in the low 60's...
to be honest, I think you can get away with 2-200 watt heaters just fine-just depends on where its located...
