Do I need to worry about my smaller plec, who keeps hiding between the glass and the heater? I don't think hes touching the heater but I ... oh okay, I just looked over and hes sucking on it...
:nilly: He wont get burnned right?

My gibbiceps used to do that all the time when he was tiny - sucked right to the heater. then he liked to snuggle into the corner of the tank between the heater and the wall.

However, you should watch out depending on the type of heater you have. The glass ones will sometimes leak and end up with a short over time. We lost a 19" pleco at the start of October, and I think it was a shock from the heater that did it. :(

I'm thinking about building a over head sump for my tank just to run the heater in...
thats a little extreme........just use pvc as a sleeve (like all the guys whith rays use)

I'm curious about the pvc. How would you put it on? Without it sliding off or anything?

I use PVC for my ray tank, super easy. Just cut the pvc to the height of the water level and drill plenty of holes in it. I drilled two holes large enough to fit the nipple of a suction cup, and use these to fasten them to the inside of the tank.

For plecs, though, you don't need to use this method. They are sensitive enough to know when they're being burned. Never had an issue with any of mine being burnt.

and thats how its done

I don't think I could use pvc. I would hate looking at it.

Get a Fluval E Series heater

I have three of them bought at a very good price.

It's a glass heater with digital display, in a plastic case.

With one glance at your tank you can tell if the temp is fine, green is good, red is hot, blue is cold.

The only problem I ever had with these heaters is that it likes to complain that the flow is too low when it really isn't..

This heater has so far been very reliable, other heaters I used have seriously failed and have killed fish. When a heater fails It either doesnt come on or its stuck on and will run at max temp. It's well worth it to invest in a good heater.

I don't think anyone understands my question.

With bearded dragons they can burn themselves on there heaters with out even knowing...will he swim away if it gets too hot?
