I use PVC for my ray tank, super easy. Just cut the pvc to the height of the water level and drill plenty of holes in it. I drilled two holes large enough to fit the nipple of a suction cup, and use these to fasten them to the inside of the tank.

For plecs, though, you don't need to use this method. They are sensitive enough to know when they're being burned. Never had an issue with any of mine being burnt.

+1
Mine do it all the time and I've never had one get burnt.

I don't think anyone understands my question.

With bearded dragons they can burn themselves on there heaters with out even knowing...will he swim away if it gets too hot?
some times yes and some times no it . it depends on your plecos personality

I'm curious about the pvc. How would you put it on? Without it sliding off or anything?

I use PVC as well. I cut the PVC just a little over the length of the heater, put an end cap on it so my eels wouldnt slid up in it which is why I did this in the first place, then drilled holes and since I like my stuff to look nice I used a machine to drill the holes evenly. Then I removed the suction cup from the clip that usualy holds the heater to the glas and put the clip inside the PVC pipe and then pushed the nipple out of one of the holes, then slide the heater thru the clip and it will fit snug. Works great and its cheap to do.

now and then my plecs on it, i grabbed the heater while its on, and its only like +0.5 +1 degree of the tank I don't think its enough to burn...still wont fix the issue of it exploding but neither will the pvc that just prevents it from being hit.
