Could add or remove mats as needed.

That sounds like it would be the biggest PITA. I would have to give up the hobby if I had to constantly plug and unplug my heater to maintain temp. But that's just me

Inline heater would be best, but I did use a reptile heating mat under a rimless nano tank with no issues. I wouldnt use a strong one, but for bumping the temps a couple degrees it worked well
