if the temps in the shop gets into the 50s, youre gonna have hell of a time trying to keep it the temps right for tropical fish (78-82). youre trying to raise the temps almost 30 degrees above room temperature.
rule of the thumb, it takes 4 watts per gallon to change the temperature 9 degrees. to make things easy, lets say you need to raise it 27 degrees, so:
27 degree change / 9 degrees = 3. 3 x 4wpg = 12. so you'll need 12 watts per gallon to raise the temperature 27 degrees.
