Heating a big tank?

I use the true temp titanium shielded heaters for one of my ponds, 2 of the 1000W models plugged into a reef keeper controller. Didn't like the 2 degree temp swings that the controllers they come with have. I agree you would be better off with 2 500W in your case than 1 1000W. Heaters do go out from time to time, always best to have a backup to prevent the temp from falling to much.

I have a 10x2x2 with a 5x2x2 sump.

I bought 2 x 500w heaters off ebay for £9.99 each and they work brilliant, I also have another 300w in my sump aswell just in case.

I have one 500w in my sump and one in my tank just incase my return pump fails for any reason.
