How are you heating you large tanks? I have a 180g but my two heaters are 150W and 200W. Are there any specific heater for large aquariums? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Depending on the room temperature, you can usually get away with a heater or 2 in the sump. The 250 watt I have in my sump seems to heat my 265 with no problems. (most of my system is sealed off so I dont get a lot of temp. loss)

like rallysman mentioned, its mainly depending on room temp. i have no huge tanks but my 420L is heated by a 250W sera heater and it can keep up with ease. Once the tank is on temp, it will likely not drop fast, which is even more the case with big tanks. the new eheim filters offer a 500W heater inside, which should be nice to heat big tanks too.

It will also depend on the fish you want to keep. Some fish can tolerate cooler temp.
I have a 210 gal with 250w heater.

Well I have Oscars in this tank and it seem like their collors are not the same as before when i had them in my 55g. Their colors seem lighter than usual and i was just concerned. I have a 200W and a 150W but my tank is outside under our covered patio. It get a cold but My 55 was in the sam place. Do you think i should get another heater?

2 heaters in a sump for me.

for a large tank, i prefer to have 2 heaters in the sump rather than 1 high wattage heater. If a fuse blows or for whatever reason one of them fails, you got a fail safe.

i have a 180 gal tank... acrylic and i used 2x 250W stealth heater. didn't have any problem. i might try one 250W to save $$ on bills. but since it's summer i'll set it aside until winter.:) outside temp is a big influence and if you do cover your tank well, it will hold the temp longer, compared to a fully opened tank with no cover at all.:)

well i dont know what the temp is were you come from but here in the uk i use 4x 300w heaters in my sump on my 360gal.

I use 2-500 watt titanium heaters in the sump controlled by a Ranco temperature controller. It controls both heaters, the point temperature, differential, and stores programming during a power outage. Love it!
