Heating Large Tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had my 300w blow so now i have a 200 jager that keeps at the same temp. was the only that they ad at the moment at LFS:D .
is on a 150g. and stays 27g
the tank is fully cover and in winter the coldest was 10 g outside and that is cold in here

AquaMedic produce very high output titanium heaters for use with digital controllers, or if you are using a sump tank Jager (Eheim) 300w Heater/Stats are very efiecne tas they are rated to heat 600-1000 litres. I would personally "stage" heat, take your total wattage required (depending on aquarium net volume and potential for ambient room temerature fluctuation) and divide by 3. So if you say require 750w I would use 3 x 250w heater/stats,
if one fails in the on position the other 2 shall detect the rising temp and stay OFF, preventing them being boiled, if one fails in the off position, the other 2 shall stay on and prevent the water from becoming extremely chilled. This way both extremes can be avoided, unless all 3 failed simultaneously on or off, extremely unlikely. Remember equipment will fail at some time, even the most expensive kit, as any fishkeeper of long standing can confirm.

I agree with this dude ^^^

Multiple heaters are definitely recommended for larger tanks. It's a good failsafe in case one dies on you. I have 2 300 watt inline heaters on my 240 gallon.

I use 1 300 watt on my 300g in the sump but I have a 250 watt in there set a few degrees lower incase the one craps out.

I am running 1 300w in my 600g acrylic tank. I would rather be running 2 but funds are tight. That tank is costing more than I thought to get it running.
