I'm having a huge issue heating my 75. the tank has a case of ick so I cranked my stealth upto 86 and added salt. The heater is scorching hot to the touch but it won't heat the tank. I have it in my sump but it didn't make a difference where is was either in my tank or sump. tank is currently at 79.2 and the heater almost burns if I reach in and grab it. help I need to get rid of this ich.

How many watts is the heater? It takes a while to heat up a tank. If its hotter than the water it will heat the tank overtime

Caught me!!! How long have you waited?

tank has only gotten colder over the last couple of days not warmer tank ran on average of 80-81.6 before now its at 79 with the heater cranked to 89.

Has the room it's in got colder? Glass isn't the best insulator. If it's been days it sounds that it may be peaked out. If it's a 200 it's too small for the tank. I use the 250 and it holds a constant 80 degree temp. The 250's are 15" long and the 200's are a little over 13" if I remember right. You could always add another smaller heater.

^^^for 75 gallon with 20L sump

Actually turned the room temp upto 75... may have to grab anothr heater pretty sure its a 250 as it is 1/2 the length of my 29g sump which is 30".

Well I borrowed a heater from a breeder friend 150 watts tank is now about 82.6-82.9F. Suprised the stealth can't keep up. The stealth is burning hot but can't warm the water does anyone think it may be bad? I'm thinking about going and picking up a Theo 400 at petsmart does anyone think that should be able to get my tank up to 86? its ~5 watts per gallon.

Stealth heaters have a lifetime warranty. Give them a call, its worth a shot. If a 150 can heat your tank the stealth may be bad. It's just odd that it gets as hot as you say it does and it's not heating the water.
