your basking spot should be 95-105. pick up a temp gun and find out. ceramic heaters give off a l lot of heat but dont focus the heat downward. go with a good infra red bulb spot bulb. by a spot bulb i mean a bulb that focuses the heat in a tight beam straight down. first pic you can see how i had them on top. hole cut in top of cage, square of screening (something more heavy duty then chicken wire, smaller holes), then a piece of wood with hole cut in it also screwed down over other hole holding the screen down. pic 2 you can see the wire. in the 3rd pic you can tell that i switched the side i had the lights and the shelf on with my ig basking. she sat there all day and slept there. on the back one i had an infra red bulb that would come on at night or stayed on during the day depending on temps. she never once slept on the ground. i placed food on the ground and she would climb down and eat. sometimes she would just hang from the branch like a bat and eat haha. just cause your ig eats on the ground doesnt mean you need to have belly heat. when she is down she will climb back up and bask. i dotn know what your temps are in northern cali, so you need to go get a temp gun to figure out your basking spot temp, and go get a digital thermometer to get your air temps. with 3 sides of your tank screened you might need a higher watt bulb then your 60 watt. i would get one of those active uv spot bulbs. i agree with what someone said before, make sure to get a can light with a ceramic holder. the ceramic holders allow you to have a higher what bulb. i only have one shelf in the tank because i never got around to adding more. i was thinking of screwind down thick branches along the side of the tanks for a more natural look then just the shelf.
to recap, a heat pad would be pointless for an ig. and stay away from hot rocks (pieces of $#!t)
