Have thought of that, i think it will be fine.. Its a 75 gallon and it is loading with mini monster catfishs like rapheals, pictus, bumblebee, yellow marble, and a few others. Catfish are really good at adapting as long as it reasonable. I have smaller limestone rocks that have been in there for several month and it keeps my ph around 7.3 and my fish seem to like it. So if i had this rock i will take the others out and just keeps that one big one.

Oh and im 99% percent sure its limestone cause all the caves here are limestone so im guessing the same. Its pores are just like limestone too..

Back to the original question, substate is out of the question. Like i said i like to keep my tank super clean and some of my fish hide under the slate rock and i can see them from the bottom.

I may just save this rock for some kenya cichlids i may be getting.

If you are going to put limestone in your tank be prepared for very hard water. Limestone will dissolve over time adding CaCO3 to your water.

Used to keep a 40 pound piece of glass in a 80 gal, my grandpa had fished it out of lake ontario, anyways never had any problems.

see your not just talking about glass your talking about glass with water in it which m,akes it even stronger.. a simple car window when put under water can take the sick beating and not break.. its the small simple hits like from a nail that will shatter the glass but pure weight wont do a damn thing

it won't break the tank but limestone may change your water chemistry
yah i was gonna mention this, but i figured since it wasn't about that, and was about weight i decided against it.

but i second this. limestone will raise your ph mega...

after watching the videos don't put 90 mph rocks in there and you'll be fine. really i have some rocks that anchor driftwood that weigh more thaat 15 pounds and they are fine in my 265 gal.
