you can actually pet them, just very carefully and slowly....

only draw back that i know is that they are nocturnal....meaning they run around crazy at night and sleep all day!!!

My Chinchilla is the same way. He makes a lot of racket at night.

i just took my class on a fieldtrip to the zoo and there was a presentation and live hedgehog, the zoo girl said that this is also the number one reason why people get rid of them...

I have one, he mainly eats catfood. Hes a pretty mean dude though, freaks out when you get near him.

They are pests in a lot of places, Im surprised to see they are that expensive,
although I believe that price as they come from europe mostly.

I think I saw one for 75$ in a petshop once, considered getting one myself, I like fish n' herps more though.

Ive handled them before, dont stroke against the growth direction of the spine, Lol.
And they can roll up in balls! thats cool.

I've dealt with a bunch, and the food I like best is a zoo type insectivore diet called "reliable protein product" it's available on the internet, but you have to buy in 40 lb increments.
