Well, that didn't take the little guy too long. :P

Came home from work to find this.

Mom tells me to go eff myself with the camera, while dad coos over the eggs. SO SO many eggs.

They were doing some pre-spawn behaviors this morning, but I really thought it was going to be a few days off!!! I had even planned to meet up with a guy tonight to buy a 10 gallon with a sponge-filter!!! I was really expecting the water change I had planned for this weekend to trigger the actual spawning. Why couldn't they wait?! :nilly: I didn't witness any fertilization, so no telling if he got it right. As much as he was dogging Argus out, though, I'd expect him to have least gotten a few licks in.

So, should I go ahead and raise the temperature? Corral any egg snarfers? Is there anything I can add to a 300 gallon tank to help the eggs along? Should I wait til any fry hatch and are free-swimming before I try to net them out? Will they take frozen baby brine shrimp, or should I use live?

IMO, I would leave the eggs in intill they are wigglers. (About three days). Bass are really good parents. So if you have a "prized" fish in that tank, I would take it out. I like having tank mates in the tank with a pair, just for the fact the bass will spend more time chasing away the intrudes then pecking at the eggs.

What are the tank mates?

WHat is the current temp now?

There's an 8" female jag who lives on the other side of the 300 gallon, a 10" oscar, and two 14" bichirs that hang out on the other side of the tank with the lady jag. The one I am worried the most about is the 8" raphael which generally gives no f***s because of how well armored he is. The temperature is a bit on the cooler side, fluctuating between 80-84*F. Argus does seem like she's being a good mom, dad and the oscar have already been chased away, with bumps on their heads from running away from her. She's been hovering over the eggs, fanning them.

Well, Let's see when they are wigglers.
