I have a fairly newly acquired helianthus congo, and his mouth is a little white around the lips...it seems to come and go, and since he is still eating plenty, i am inclined to believe he may just be fighting...i've seen him go at it a little with my brichardi and transcriptus, though i haven't actually witnessed them going at eachothers mouths...should i wait to see if he stops eating before i decide to treat the tank? i have melafix and pimafix, and i am pretty sure one of them would do the trick if it is mouthrot...any suggestions?

thanks toehead, i think so too...beautiful front in your avatar by the way...hey, since you seem to know your stuff with tangs, can you tell me whether or not i can keep more than one tretocephalus in my community tank??? i love these guys, but i have heard they can be very aggressive toward eachother

depends on the size of your tank, amount of cover and other species. they are very aggressive. keep them only in a large tank with a lot of cover i.e. rockwork/caves and only with other species of fish who are as aggressive. they are just as aggressive towards their own kind. i have C. Moorii and they are mean as hell towards eath other but bother no one else. do it with caution.

he is in a 55 gallon, and tankmates are as follows: 1 helianthus, 1 brichardi, 1 tropheus, 1 spathodus, 5 julie transcriptus, 1 yellow compressicepps, 2 leleupi

those brichardi can get mean too. i can't promise you whether not not they'll get along but if you do it keep an eye on them, give'm plenty of hiding places and pray. i personally wouldn't do it. i have a leleupi, calvus and a julie marlieri and i only have one of each so they won't fight. you have two types of aggression: you have aggression towards other species and Conspecific (towards their own species) tretocephalus are nasty on both. it's your call but be prepared to remove them if they get nasty.

maybe i'll just let that one slide, and let the one tret. in there now kinda stand out as the centerpiece. could i/should i add anything else? or just leave well enough alone and anxiously wait for them to get big and beautiful?

I had a brichardi 'daffodil' and a pair of helianthus beautiful fish by the way but they fought all the time. Some of the most aggresive little fish I have ever kept!!!
