Hey guys, I am farily new at this. However, I think my iridescent shark has ick. He has a big white spot on his head, but nowhere else on his body. He seems to be acting ok, so I am not sure if it is ick or not. I have never had any fish that has ever had it before. Should I just go ahead and do a water change and treat the whole tank for ick? Also, I have two african clawed frogs in my tank. Can they get ick, and can they be in the tank when I treat it?

Doesn't sound like ich. Sounds more like he scraped his head on something and fungal spores found an entry point. These cats are pretty resilient (I have a dozen normals and albinos). Your best bet would be to go ahead and perform your water change/gravel wash. Add a teaspoon to a tablespoon of salt per gallon, raise the tank temp to 84-85F, and give him a week to recover. You can also add a dose of slime promoter if you wish.

If you ever do treat for ich be careful! You have to get the one for scaleless fish

I DOUBT THAT YOUR IR SHARK HAS ICK ,I HAVE TWO 9 INCH IR SHKS THEY ARE KNOWN TO SWIMM HEAD ON INTO GLASS,ROCK,ECT. BUT THEY BOUNCE RIGHT BACK ,I WOULDN'T ADD ANY MEDS TO TANK,I WOULD ADD LITTLE SALT WATER CHANGE .ITS PROBABLY A SMALL WOUND ,ICK LOOKS LIKE SALT ON FISH..AND JUST FOR GP IF ANY YOUR FISH SHOULD GET ICK ITS VERY EASY TO CURE

This is what I like about this forum. Everyone is eager to to give great, and expert advice! to all helpful members :)

thanks for all the hepful info guys:D his head is lookin a little bit better....and yall are right.....he does keep smacking his head on the glass.......thus he is dubbed "the blonde fish":D

My ID shark just caught ich from a few other fish in my tank, all though all are not affected. I started treating with rid ich immediately, and now my fish seem to be breathing heavy, mostly the ID shark, I also have some loaches and raphael cats that aren't as affected as much as the ID, but i'm only at day 3 of treatment. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, as some fish seem to be improving while others are worsening. Already lost a glass catfish and angelicus. Good luck with your tank.

Ecuaaron, did you increase surface movements? Your fish are gasping for oxygen. This will stress them further.
