I've been a lurker here forever now and decided to register.
I've gotten so much great info from this website over the past couple years, it made sense.
About 15 years ago I had a 55g that looking back on it now was so horribly over populated it was embarrasing. I fought with that tank all the time, it was either cloudy, smelled, dead fish, you name it. My local pet shop would happily sell me ammonia remover and all the garbage that just make them money and ruins the new user experiance. I eventually got rid of the tank out of frusteration.
Then along came the internet... Cycle a tank?!! How come the people at my local fish store never mentioned anything about cycling? Hell, they sold me a Pacu and 3 Snakeheads and about 30 neon tetra's for the same 55g tank. The day I bought it. I didnt know any better and they weren't about to tell me apparently.
Today, I currently have a 40g corner tank and Im just now setting up a 90g.
A couple of years ago, I bought the corner tank, a Jack Dempsey and a Blood Parrot. They get along great, and share a tank with a Pleco and 6 Giant Danios. They have outgrown their world hence the 90g. I have a 2" Green Terror in another tank and am planning on bringing everyone together in the 90g.
Im not planning on adding anymore fish to the 90g besides what I already have as I think the Jack and the GT are going to need as much space as I will give them. Haven't completely decided what Im going to put in the corner tank when I take everyone out of it. Might do a few Discus, not sure.
Thanks for having such a great forum for people to find information that is SORELY needed. I really have a hard time anymore when I go into a pet shop and hear an employee say "can I help you?" I just smile and say no thanks, but Im thinking, Ya, sure, what, spend money killing fish? Not interested. I've done my own research, thank you...
