Hello, I am new also. Not even sure how to do this. I am new to aquariums but have been a pond enthusiast for 15 years. I live in Michigan and keep the pump running in my very small pond all winter. I have never lost a goldfish. BUT, now I am in the planning stages of building a 1000 gallon tank to house Discus and appropropriate tankmates. I have been studying and researching everything I can and am still having some issues. I have watched Joey "King of DIY" on youtube and have asked him some questions but haven't gotten any response. On his 500 gallon aquarium, he has 3 aquarium heaters that hang on the side of his 55 gallon drum to heat the water before the pump sends it into the aquarium. His pump is approximately 4600gph. I cannot quite figure out how, with that force of water going into the aquarium, 3 small heaters in that barrel can heat that water in such a short time. Now, if that works, I would need 6 1000W heaters to heat 1000 gallon tank to a temperature of 82 degrees. I have looked into inline titatium heaters ($800) and have considered heater via a standard water heater pre-drip. But, none of these seem to be practical. ISN'T THERE A BETTER WAY TO HEAT AN AQUARIUM? Any ideas fish lovers?
