Hello everyone im the new guy :)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is a pic of my new fish, maybe you guys can help to tell what it is? we could not be sure what it was at the fish shop and he could not contact the supplier to be sure it was a armatus, im thinking its not because its got no orange anywhere and it seems to swim at a slant, but I really have no clue, nor could he. they wanted $149 for the fish on the tank, they said $139 on the phone, after talking with him a bit and checking it out and what not, and trying to figure out what kind it is, he said he will let him go for $90, so now im happy no matter what it turns out to be. I got him in the tank now, everything seems good, my Oscar don't seem to care hes there, my fire eel does not care either, and the new fish seems to be cruising around pretty care free, so far so good :)

thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I just got off the phone and they guy said they are not tats, they are armatus, he said they are not 3" they are actualy 6-7", he said they are $139 but if i got 2 and traded my sub adult Oscar he could do around 200ish just because they have had them for about 4-5 months and they just wont sell, hes got 3 total. Im a little hesitant on getting 2 being how i have only 70 gallon tank and don't want to have to build a tank for a year, give me some time to get to alberta find a job and then buy a place first, but 1 would do fine for sure till them im thinking, he said they have had no problems with them fighting at all, they were all in great shape when i seen then, and they seemed to be swimming in a pack formation the entire time, but i read armatus tend to be solo, and hate silvery fish,so im not really sure at what age they mature and become more solo or if its more a space issue which is another reason im thinking just one, as well as not knowing why they seem to be getting along fine? hmm. well im off to barter at the fish shop, ill post a pic when i get back with or with out the fish just be be sure :) but honestly it going to be hard to come home empty handed lol

As I said I've successfully Comm'd Armatus and offered my video link in my signature as a reference. I kept a pair of Armatus together until they where about 14 inches so their conspecific aggression isn't as severe as their reputation. How ever any other silver fish will be shredded almost immediately in my experience including other Payara such as Raphiodon and Tat's.

koltsix I love those cat fish!!! the bigger one with the spots, not sure if they both are the same, and very nice tank, I watch a bunch of your you tube videos!! and that armatus is super sexy! I hope someone can tell what kind of payara mine is, can you tell from my pics perhaps?

Thanx!! I'm not sure what video your talking about as far as the cats go but the only spotted cats I had where a Achara/Tiger Shovelnose Catfish http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=4430 and a Vulture Catfish/Calophysus macropterus http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=336

I'm sure if you supply a pic in the Characin section asking for an ID people will help you ID the Payara myself included.
