Hi everyones!
My name is Yudhie. I am originally from Jakarta, Indonesia who is currently live temporary in Melboune, Australia with my beautiful Balinese wife and 2 adorable sons. Keeping monsters since I was 13 years of age, so its about 20 years till now. Back in Jakarta i`ve got: S.Rhombeus, Arapaima Gigas, some Super Red Arawanas, Alligator Gars, Spotted Gars, Snake heads, Clown Knives, some S.Naterrerri, Goliath Tigers, Vampires Tetras, and alot more to mention here. I also collecting turtles and tortoises such as Radiatas, Burmese Indian Stars, Snapping Alligators, Mata matas, Galapagos Giant Tortoises etc. Some species of crocodiles are also in my collections list. I`ve got my pet caretakers back home to taking care of them while I am away since back in Indo cheap labors are everywhere but you have to find the trustworthy ones which are the hardest part. In my case that`s not a big issue since he was with our family for a solid 12 years or more. Now I am looking for some Indian Gavials to be added in my crocodiles collections. Mind you guys, I am lucky with my hobbies and being an Indonesian, back there all rarities are cheap as hell, say 5 bucks for Rhombeus, 10 bucks for crocodiles etc. I`ve got my piranhas and goliath tigers most of 'em for free, gifts from the pet shops. Here in Melbourne the law of wild life is pretty strict so not much monsters that I can keep in my tanks here....sadly the prices for rare and odds are ridiculously high also the availabilities are very low. But thats what challenged me more. It`s just like collecting stamps, you have to hunt em in every pet shop you could find, build up relationship with the owners and then when you are close enough to them, you can shop with special price you can`t even imagine how far it is the difference of the margin price wise with their retail price said on the glass of their aquarium displays! Say for the polypterus senegalus, one pet shop is selling them for AU $ 1800, while I could find them for AU $ 300 in other shop!! Back in Jakarta not even AU $ 3, and on that price you even still can bargain with the seller!!
Well, moving on, I've got 3 tanks at the moment:
One 540 L engaged with 2 Eheim outside big Filters with population of:
1x Jardini - one of the most beautiful arawanas species in character wise, smart, ferocious, and can be upset with you if you are there but you neglected him, concentrating on your other tanks. He will throw his face away when you try to be back at him!!
2x Polypterus ornatipinnis - hard to find here
2x Leporinus Fasciatus - hard to find too
2x Megalops cyprinoides - this are my favorites, ferociously can't change their diets to pellets even their hungry, they will wait until I am back with feeders. Cost me 50 big size gold fish as feeders to feed my 540 L aquarium in 4 days!
2x Lepisosteus Oculatus - very rare to find here unlike their cousin Atractosteus spatula which are more easier to find them up in Sydney, I have to wait for 8 months to order them in!!
1x Chitala ornata - also ridiculously hard to get here, cost me AU $350 each while back home it`s nothing. Mind you guys, the fish is from Indonesia. Back there we make fish crackers out of it, but I like the beauty of the fish, thats why I still add it into my collections.
2x Myleus rubripinnis - very rare too
One 140 L engaged with 2 Eheim outside big Filters with population of:
2x Panaque nigrolineatus - rare and expensive here, I got lucky to get them cheap!
1x L 091 Leporacanthicus - almost impossible to get here
1x Polypterus ornatipinnis - juveniles
2x Polypterus Senegalus - juveniles
1x Polypterus Senegalus albino - Juveniles
2x Sturisoma Panamense
2x Farlowella
2x Sturisoma Aureum
2x Macrognathus circumcinctus - ridiculously rare here
2x Agamyxis pectinifrons - rare here
1x Ctenolucius hujeta - unfortunately this is the only species that survived from the pet shop. Before he (the owner of the pet shop) got 5 of them, and when I want to get all of them, he said he wants to fattened them up before he selling them, unfortunately 4 of them jumped out, and I took the left over!!
1x Ancistrus sp.
2x Parancistrus sp. L30
I know it's over crowded that`s why I am setting up my 8 footers right now. Don't worry guys, I always try to spoil the ones that I love.
Recently I took a pair of gars for my friend, and accidentally we found out that the gars was Cuban gars! I tried to exchanged them with mine but my friend rejected my request. Well, I am happy when every ones happy so..it was he's lucky day then!
Thank you for let me be part of the coolest family I've ever encountered on the web by accident! Proud to be one of the member!!
Cheers
