hello from newbie pacu and me

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi! Welcome to MFK!

Welcome to MFK, where pushing to new limits is something you see pretty often.

Okay I have 3 Pacu, when I got them I knew they grew pretty large & fast, but I have to say PACU ARE THE FASTEST GROWING FISH EVERRRRRRR. Their WORSE then RedTail Catfish NO LIE & I would know i've had plenty of both species. Pacu can be very aggersive, all Pacu go through a stage before entering adulthood, they become EXTREMELY MEAN they will usually pick a fight with any fish, mostly other Pacu they end up ripping each other apart, I wasn't prepared for that.... I had to put them in their own tanks for a while. But back to what your worrying about PACU & OSCARS. THEY GO HAND & HAND, they get along pretty easily. You have nothing to worry about. EXCEPT: If you ever decided to get another Pacu & put it in the same tank as that giant you have, don't be surprised if you see another side to your Pacu. Pacu will bully a new Pacu that enter in it's tank. But if you have a very large tank or even a pond you will most likly have no problems.

If you have any questions or ideas or anything don't be scared to ask me, just post a message on my wall.

Welcome. Let me be the first to tell you, that that tank is waaaaaay too small for that fish.
I'm not trying to be mean, but it's a bit crule to have him in that thing like that.

I'm sure you'll do the best you can to make it right for him though. I wish you good luck.
Does anyone have any GOOD advice for this woman?

Cam your always the first one to welcome NEWBIE'S:).
You were the first one to welcome me the day I joined up:D.

I've never experienced any aggression between my 3. However, they've all lived in my indoor pond the entire time I've had them (they were all added at different times). That may be why. I've never had a Pacu in an aquarium, so I'm not sure how they act. But, I will agree that it seems if you add them with plenty of space (I've got about a thousand gallons), they're best buds. Mine get along great.

Mine were best buds from the min I put them together. They are in an aquarium and were put together at about 13" long.

Well mine destroyed each other all the time, when I hadd them in the tank.

Often, the stories I hear of Pacu being "aggressive" are stories of them in tanks (tanks that are usually too small). The folks that call them "gentle giants" (such as myself) keep them in ponds which are of sufficient capacity to give them plenty of room. I like my husband, but I have a feeling we'd start fighting pretty quickly if someone locked us in broom closet. LOL so that's my theory on Pacu aggression.
