I have a 110gal tank with 8 cichlids. To filter this tank I am using:
1) Penguin Emperor 400
2) Fluval 404
3) Magnum 350
4) Eheim 2076
5) Commercially built sump with a 1250gph pump pushing a Ocean Clearcanister filter
6) A dozen or so Pothos hanging over the back of the tank.

My water readings are Amonia: 0 Nitrites:0 Nitrates < 20.

Today at work they handed out bonuses that amounted to almost 20% of my salary. To celebrate I stopped off at Goodwill on the way home and found a Corallife light (that I will ask for help with later in identifying it) for $10. And I also found a Rena XP3 in almost perfect shape with a ton of bulk filter pads, sponges and all accessories for $14.99....

Well I hid the light in the garage and snuck the XP3 in while my girlfriend was unloading groceries. After quickly adding some new black non kink spiral pond tubing to the filter I gave one end a good suck and plugged it in. Nothing!!! So I pulled one end out of the water and... uh... well it is running perfectly, I just couldn't hear it! So I now have a 7th filter for my 110gal.

I think I need help!!!!!

Oh yeah... I forgot to mention the 5 gallons of bioballs sitting on my door step when I got home that I just ordered to go with the 29gal tank I got on the Petco $1 a gallon sale to build a bigger sump. I think I need major help!

Good lord, sell 3/4s of those filters on craigslist or on the forums and find ya 2 filters you can dedicate to the 110g.

What are the dimensions of the sump?
And what is the need for all of the filters?

I bought the Eheim 2076 new for a 55 gal Hex I was setting up. Then I found a great deal on the 110 and it came with the Fluval 404 and the Magnum 350. I found the Sump on Craigslist and the only price in the add was $30 but the guy wanted $60 and he gave it to me for $30. The Emperor is 10 years old and I only used it for a few months before moving and getting rid of the tank it was on. The Nuclear I got off ebay for $30. And how does anyone pass on a $15 XP3????

Yes! need help!

The sump is about 12" x 24" x 14" and just bioballs with a filter pad on the drip tray.

Of all the filters I like the sump the best and noticed a big difference in the activity of my cichlids when I added it... I think this is mostly due to all the extra oxygen. So my plan is to build a new stand around the 29 gallon sump I plan to build at the same time. My thinking is to get down to just the sump and the ocean clear but I am not really liking the ocean clear so I have a variety of socks I ordered from McMaster Carr in a variety of sizes and micron ratings.

But come on... $15 for a practically new XP3... there wasn't even any water scale on it! And the media alone would cost me more than $50 to buy new!

Oh man... I completely forgot about the Vortex DE filter a friend gave me as a thank you for welding his boat trailer back together!

I think you are cured.

Get rid of the Penguion 400, the Fluval 404, the Magnun 350.

Now you need to make a decision.
Do you like the Eheim better or the XP3 better? I am a fan of both brands.

You dont need both cannisters with the sump. Hell you dont NEED any of the cannisters with the sump.
