Hello, I recently joined monsterfishkeepers.com because it seemed like an awesome place to get cool info and check out cool pics of fish!

I just wasnt getting any good info on myspace fish groups and was hoping I could get some here.

I recently aquired 900 dollars and want to use it to buy a fairly large fish tank, I was thinking 95-125 gallons, possibly more.

And 900 dollars is ALL I can spend as I'm only 14 and I'm not about to ask my parents for money for a long, long, LONG! Time. I got my 900 dollars from selling my dirtbike for 1,400. The money left over must go into a savings account.

If I spent anymore on a set-up, I'd probably get slaughtered!

So, I was just wondering what I could really do with this cash? I was thinking of buying a 95 and just putting a Jag in it.

I dont really know, I just want a fish that gets relatively good size and is good enough to be considered monster...

Any suggestions would be cool!

A jag would be a great fish for that tank, and it is definitely Monster. Get a small one and grow it out. Welcome to MFK!

There are plenty of possibilities. A 95 might get a little small for a full grown male jaguar, but look around at some of the other parachromis species such as loisellei or motaguense.

Thank's, both of you for such quick replies. :headbang2

I was planning on buying a relatively small one and growing out in hopes that it would bond and see me as its provider.

Also, do you think a Jag would go for convict fry? I have heard that alot of fish will kill them, but not actually eat them.

I'll check out the other fish suggested.

This website rules!

jags are definetly monster, rather than haveing it eat live prey, you start it on, pellets and etc, if you've got 900 than go for a 125, the bigger the better, when dealing with parachromis, or any other speices of fish, males tend to need larger tanks than females, because there adult sizes differ, 13" females, 16" for males.

if they are small enough any fish will eat the fry! my 2in zebra ate them when i fed him convict fry and in a month his growth shot up to 4in!

but a 95 would probably be the minimum for a female jag! you could try breeding project! breed a pair of festae or a pair of red devils!

you could go for a couple of oscars! everyone loves them they arent extremely aggressive but have a couple tons of personality! so you could get 2-3 for tht tank and maybe get a few smaller fish! like put a breeding pair of cons in there! jsut to have and on demand feeder! or firemouths they look nice and are the equivalent of cons!

Just looked at a Motaguense red tiger.

Heres a direct link to the picture I found, awesome color!

The Loiselli are nice but I like the motaguense more.
I think I'll get a 125 gallon just for extra swim-space and I'm sure the fish will like that more.

Would I need a 200 gallon or more to house a motaguense red tiger and a jag together? Or would it just be better to get a 125 and house either a jag or motaguense by itself?

I'll try it, but I have heard from some people that theyre fish dont like convict fry. One person even told me his 'cudda wouldnt even eat them!

You wanna go Crenicichla bro...a lot more fun and not as commonly kept as other cichlids. Full of color and spunk as well. Being in Washington though if yuo wanted to get some nice ones you might have to order them. How far away from Pasco are you? I used to live in Walla Walla and made faithful weekly runs to the LFS there. Got to know the guys pretty good that worked at the LFS. Should give it a looksies! ;)

houseing different spices of parachromis together can get iffy sometimes, it's much safer keeping one speices of them in a tank. if it was me i'd get the jags, and put a a pair in a 125, larger growing thn mota's and good personallity's, i love my pair
