Hello, New to the forum!

i should have guessed peanut would be drawn to this thread saying pike cichlids!

but i am more of a fan of SA/CA there is a huge array of big fish that still look good! texas! oscar! jag! festae! Midas! '

if you want to spring for it you could try for a used tank that is bigger and try breeding jags!

srry i am just obbcessed with breeding fish!

My philosophy is..
if they look nice why not get 2! if you're gettin 2 why not make them male and female and breed them! :D

You wanna go Crenicichla bro...a lot more fun and not as commonly kept as other cichlids. Full of color and spunk as well. Being in Washington though if yuo wanted to get some nice ones you might have to order them. How far away from Pasco are you? I used to live in Walla Walla and made faithful weekly runs to the LFS there. Got to know the guys pretty good that worked at the LFS. Should give it a looksies! ;)

Im pretty far from walla-walla. I could have them ordered to a more local LFS though. Its a nice place that also sells reptiles, tanks are always clean and fish really well cared of. I know for a fact that they will order on demand as they have done it before.

I'll check out the fish your recomended. This is definately better then myspace for sure, quick responses and awesome answers instead of people just saying "Use Google"

I almost bought a dwarf pike cichlid for my 35, but I ended up with convicts, the only reason I got the convicts is because I traded in three 10'' Shubunkin/Ryukin fancy goldfish so I got the cons for free.

I was thinking of buying a used tank because I have found 200 gallon tanks for pretty cheap on craigslist and stuff.

I dont think I'll get Oscars though, theyre cool but just not for me.

Definately check out google...;). My avatar is of a female Crenicichla lenticulata....gorgeous fish lemme tell yaz. Just go to Google and search for Crenicichla. Then click on the image tag at the top and let the FUN BEGIN!!

Check these sites out and tell your LFS to check them out as well. Best places to get fish from. Wild caught, rare, fish...awesome deals...blah blah blah.

www.tangledupincichlids.com (Jeff Rapps) He can get in pretty much any CA/SA cichlid you want. He actually has a ton of Parachromis in right now, wild caught and tank raised. His Parachromis dovii and managuense are top notch!!

www.aquabid.com (Kinda like ebay for fish) New fish are put up everyday...its great! Can find all sorts of deals and what not.

www.mainlycichlids.com (TONS of great stuff) Definately check these guys out, he orders from Oliver, who is a TOP NOTCH fish importer in Canada.

www.belowwater.com (Olivers site...AWESOME!) Canadian importer, so its harder to get his fish but DEFINATELY worth the hassle!!

Hope that helps yaz out a bit yo!!

Bummer about being far from Walla Walla, tis great fun out there! Used to go Kangaroo Rat hunting, buggers were a pain to catch but soo much fun!

I have been google-ing(sp?, haha) pictures of the fish recomended, the fish in your avatar is very cool!

So do you think I should try for a 125 or larger and try breeding jags, red tigers, or something else?

I would like to own a Dovii, but I dont think I'm up to it!

dovii doviidoviidoviidoviidoviidoviidoviidovii the tank wants a dovii

Jags are the way to go (or other large cichlids like Viejas). Pnut tricked me into trying crenicichla and now I can't stand the sight of them!! I wont get into that though. That's a whole different topic  Here is a Jag pic inspiration:D

Jag> Crenicichla (of course peanut will not agree LOL)

Haha, I'm afraid! I once watched a video posted on myspace were a guys dovii broke its 180 gallon home and had to be placed a 90 temporarily. That thing was HUGE! I swear to Fish-God that the thing made the 90 look like a 1 gallon!

Someday (When I live in my own house!) I want to build a greenhouse and put a huge pond, 2000 gallons possibly and keep large cichlids in it instead of Koi. The reason for the greenhouse is that as your pobably know, washington is cold! And I think that it would help keep temps up and I could also put plants from the fish that are in the ponds regoin to plan around inside the greenhouse. I doubt I'd be able to even leave!

Rallysman, That Jag...

Is AWESOME! I'm going to put it as my desktop background from now on!

I found a pic of a large adult Jag but it looked obese and unhappy. This one blows it right out of the water!
