Nyob zoo everyone :D, I am new here and hope to learn more about things... too much to list lol. Since asking for help here is probably more helpful than trying to at my LFS, okay okay... Since this will be my first post might as well ask my first question too. Do larger Bichirs attack smaller ones, currently two senegal bichirs I have are in a 10 gallon grow out tank when I first got them they were really small thought they were gonna be around 4-6 inches but... they are small and are just starting to develope their gray color. Had them for atleast a month now, I don't really know since im new at keeping bichirs. Ok back to the main point, Im gonna get a 4 inch Polypterus delhezi and a 4 inch Polypterus ornatipinnis will they try to eat my other small bichirs or bite to kill for no apparent reason? Should I just get another grow out tank for the two new bichirs im gonna get? Another quick question... Could my Violet Goby have an internal parasite, since its not eating and getting very very thin and he is in brackish water first time I've seen this among my Violet Gobies. At first I thought it was just because he lost his dominance when when one of my newer Violet Goby outgrew him and became the new boss... they usually never fight unless they are very hungry. Now the former Dominant violet goby is getting thinner and smaller day by day, it seems like hes eating since I put him in a quaratine tank just in case but he still looks sick to me. Uh... might be too much for my first post but... thx in advance lol...

welcome to MFK.... Anything and everything you want to know about polypterus can be found on the bottom of this page where you see forum jump... click and jump to Polypterus and you will meet expert keeper Beblondie who can tell you everything extensively about bichirs and delhezi and all the species closely related... and there are many threads with info and fantastic pics... As for the goby we have lots of info on them too.. one thing is good that you moved him to his own tank... they are not bred in captivity so alot of times yes it could be parasite from the wild.. they also good that he is kept in brackish water.. since many LFS sells them as Fresh water fish but they thrive in brackish.. you can start a thread about this guy in fish health and disease forum and get some tips on what medicine you may have to use... try feeding him frozen baby blood worms with an eye dropper just to try and start him eating again..good luck.. and nice meeting you...
