Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome.
Giant Gourami's only a baby at the moment, bought it when it was around 2 inches in February this year? Now my mum says it's around 6 inches. Hope it grows big and huge as it's regarded as a feng shui fish.
Biggest ones I saw are around 2 feet so 24 inches would be about right, but they were in a concrete pond. They get to around 18 inches in about 1 to 2 years I think.
Why are the prices of the Giant Gouramis so expensive outside Asia? I got mine for SG$18 (US$10-12) which is considered expensive already. Australia sells 3 inch ones for AU$300 (US$220??)!!
A little trivia, the most valued Giant Gouramis are from Sabah, Malaysia. The fries of this strain have extremely red colourings on the tails and finnages. And when full grown, the tail looks like a flame, not like a fan. The fanned tail one are the cheaper and more common ones. Sabah Giant Gouramis command about SG$100-200 (US$45-90) for a 3 inch fry.
