Hello,

I'm Tony Wilson from Plymouth (UK). I'm a Royal Navy Submariner as a Marine Engineer. I'm 23, been married for 2 months to Kirsty Wilson and we have 2 kids, Steven (5 Years) and Holly (8 Months).

I bought a pretty big aquarium with all the bits and bobs for a very good price and i'm really getting into this hobby. My wife is slowly taking to it too and my boy loves it.

My fish have slowly been dying for a couple of weeks now so i went to my local aquarium to ask where i was going wrong, they sampled my water and the pH is down to 6.0 and Ammonia is off the chart (really dark Green). I bought a DPI Master testing kit, some gravel which raises the pH and a few other bits and bobs. I'm at work at the moment but as soon as i get home i'll be taking 40% of the water out and filling with fresh water and sampling all the time. Hopefully my fish might get better.

I saw some crabs in the local aquarium and they got me thinking, how i would love to have some for my collection but after much research on the internet crabs are mostly for Marine and not tropical aquariums, but found a few pages on the hammersmith cobalt blue lobster (Hope i spelt it right). I really like this idea so might be adding one of them, has anyone else here kept one of these?

Welcome aboard Tony.It sounds like your tank was'nt cycled. Do some research on fishless cycling. Good luck.

I'm settled into my new house now and my tank is up and running again, got a water testing kit and have been monitoring the water closely and it's really good, Ph steady at 7.4, No Ammonia, Nitrate or Nitrite problems and the fish look alkot healthier. I bought some more fish too,

Got:

6 Phantom Tetra's
6 Black Neon Tetra's
6 Blue Neon Tetra's
8 Penguin Tetra's
2 Silver Sharks
2 Clown Loaches
1 Leopard Plec
1 Siamese Flyingfox
1 Small Catfish (Not sure what type)

&

4 Red clawed Crabs

All in all i'm rather happy with what i have now. Might invest in some more but i don't want to over do it. I found out what tank i have it's the Rena 200 Original, 200 litre (55 US Gallon).

I'll post some pictures soon.

Are those crags going in the aquarium? Watch out for those things. I used to have some and they crawled up my air hose and got out of the tank. Welcome aboard though and post some pics when possible...

They do indeed try to climb out of the tank but i've put 2 sponges in the gaps at the top of the tank which allow for the filter hoses and wires to protrude through. I was sampling the water one day and suprised to see one sat on top of my external filter, so i bought some slate and made a little dry area for them and put a plant in position for them to climb up to it, they are there quite alot now but they can't get out, well not yet anyway lol. Thanks for the welcome...

Welcome to MFK. Waiting for the pics
