Good old google sent me here looking for info on polypterus. I have to say I am very impressed with the info I have found here. By far the best information resource on the species I have found yet. I added a senegalus to my 75 gal ciclid tank about 6 years ago and never looked back. I love their relaxed locomotion as opposed to the jerky nature of many fish. Their personality and intelligence won me over quick. Over the years i got rid of the ciclids and added an ornate, albino senegalus and very recently what I believe is a weeksi and endlcheri. I was looking to verify exactly what the species was because I know the LFS I got them from didnt know.
My 75g now houses the 5 bichirs in addition to an awesome marble goby, large plego and catfish. They all get along great, no aggression towards each other. I have a ton of hiding places tho. I can post pics next week when my wife returns from a trip with our camera.
I also have a 40 gallon planted community tank with pressurised co2 and the works.
